The Walnut Creek "hummingbird" model from TK O'Brien is one of the most popular Mountain Dulcimers we offer. It is sold as a package, which includes a padded cordura nylon zippered case with a front pocket, an instruction book in DAD tuning, owners guide, a pick and noter. This model is a 4 string instrument capable of being set up with either a double melody string or 4 equally spaced strings for better chording capability. It can be tuned in a number of different modes. The included instruction book is in the Mixolydian Mode (DAD) and gives you 23 familiar songs to play. The body shape is in the traditional "hourglass" style. The top is decorated with a beautiful "hummingbird" soundhole design.
We get these dulcimers with both fixed and floating bridges. A floating bridge is not "fixed" into the soundboard, but rests on top, and is held in place with the tension of the strings. A floating bridge is not "fixed" into the soundboard, but rests on top, and is held in place with the tension of the strings. This one has a floating bridge, so when replacing strings, simply change out one string at a time to keep the bridge in place. This dulcimer has a fixed bridge.
This "Hummingbird" Mountain Dulcimer body is constructed entirely of Black Walnut. When we say entirely, we mean the back, sides, fretboard, tailstock and headstock. Soundboards are available in a variety of woods. This one has a Canarywood soundboard.
*Hummingbird dulcimers will be tuned in DAD unless otherwise specified.
