Bob Mize was a friend, fellow luthier and member of Southern Highlands Handicraft Guild.  He was a kind of mentor to me as a new member of the guild back in 1977.  He build thousands of fine Mountain Dulcimers for most of his life.  This "f" hole Hourglass model has a Black Walnut body, headstock and fretboard.  For the top Bob used Butternut (white walnut) which was a favorite.  I think he may have cut the tree on his own property.  The fret scale is 26 1/2" which is about two inches shorter than the McSpaddens!  This is truly a classic ... #2709 made in 1991.
